The Paleo Athlete

The Paleo Athlete

Steph has taken her 20 years of competition experience and combined it with her years of experience teaching high school chemistry and biology to publish an outstanding eBook called The Paleo Athlete. It will teach you how to utilize nutrient dense whole foods, proper rest and recovery, and proper pre and post workout nutrition to perform at your best. In Steph’s words: In The Paleo Athlete you’ll learn… Why athletes thrive on nutrient-dense, anti-inflammatory foods The basics of Paleo and understanding macronutrients All about carbs—who needs them and why How to burn fat at rest What and how much to eat before, during and after a workout Why dietary hacks can’t substitute for solid nutrition Practical cooking tips for your busy schedule How to get ready for competition How to improve sleep and recovery and deal with injuries and stress FAQs and troubleshooting guides Thirty stupid-easy, mouth-watering recipes …and much more! payday today loans This book is a big part of the foundation for the seminar The Whole Athlete, currently being offered through collaboration between Steph and Dallas Hartwig of Whole 9 Life. I had the pleasure of attending the inaugural seminar at CrossFit Love in Philadelphia a few weeks ago, and I was impressed with the material covered. Whether you are a weekend warrior, competitive athlete, or physical therapist working with athletes, you will benefit from reading and understanding this information.   Enjoy!

Why I love Well Fed 2

Why I love Well Fed 2

Why I love Well Fed 2 My friend, Melissa Joulwan, has outdone herself again with her latest cookbook Well Fed 2. This follow up to 2011’s Well Fed has something for everyone. I was lucky enough to receive an advanced copy and I want to share my favorite parts of the book with you. Some of my friends have already tested the delicious recipes and blogged about the experience. See NomNom’s review here. While I’m earmarking recipes to make, I wanted to get my review out there before the launch date for the book, which is October 22nd. http://hospitalitybusiness.broad.msu.edu/Account/files/ First, some background. Mel and I have not actually met in real life yet. I stumbled across her blog several years ago, when I first set out on my Paleo journey. I immediately fell in love with her, spending time reading through her blog and learning about how she utilized the principles of ancestral nutrition to address her thyroid issues. As many of you know, I started on my Paleo journey to address my autoimmune thyroid illness, Hashimoto’s Thyroiditis. Over the past few years, Mel and I have exchanged emails about everything from thyroid woes (starting the #FUthyroid on Twitter) to book recommendations to a 30 day gratitude practice via email. I am so happy for Mel and proud of her for the beautiful cookbook she is ready to launch. The book covers everything from sauces and seasonings to protein to fruits. Each page is beautifully laid out with a photo of the recipe (taken by Mel’s husband, Dave) and complete directions for creating the recipe at home. I especially appreciate that Mel lists the prep time, marinating time, and cook time – I’m sure I’m not the only person to come home from work ready to make a recipe only […]

Perfect “Hard Boiled” Eggs

Happy New Year! I know that many of you are doing a Whole 30 right now to kick off the new year right. The question I’m most frequently asked when I work with a new consulting client is: “What will I eat for breakfast?” (Usually said like “BUUUTT, Whaaaaaaaaat will I eat for breeeeaaaaakfast?!?!) As I made my breakfast this morning, I thought it might be a good idea to share how we make perfect “hard boiled” eggs. Since great minds think alike, my friend, Michelle (AKA NomNom), did a post on hard boiled eggs this morning too! I have quotes on the title of this post because to get a perfect result, you don’t boil the eggs at all! The perfect egg is steamed, not boiled. That’s right – you heard it here first! I only know this because my husband went to culinary school (i.e. I am totally spoiled). Here is our “recipe” for perfect hard boiled eggs: Step 1: Start with high quality eggs.   percent   faxless payday cash loans               Payday Loan Direct Lenders 100 Acceptance Step 2: Place the eggs in a steamer basket while you boil a small amount of water in the bottom pot of the steamer.               Step 3: Once the water is boiling, place the steamer basket with the eggs on top of the pot of water. Place the lid on top.                   Step 4: Set timer for 15 min. Step 5: When timer goes off, take steamer basket out, place eggs in a bowl of very cold water.                   Step 6: Tap each egg on the counter to crack the shell. […]

Power Supply – Delicious Paleo Meals

Power Supply - Delicious Paleo Meals

In keeping with the theme of building community, I wanted to let all of you local DC/MD/VA readers know about a fantastic company right in our area, called Power Supply. for buying cars renovating I was fortunate enough to meet Robert Morton (and business partner Patrick Smith) at AHS12. Through our conversation, I realized they were the geniuses behind the company Power Supply, which provides delicious Paleo meals delivered to over 20 local Crossfit gyms. They describe the company as: “Two guys whose lives were changed by Crossfit/Paleo, a whole bunch of energy for helping others see the same results we did, a total jedi chef and awesome support from the local CrossFit community… that’s the ingredient list for Power Supply.” Their chef, Rachelle Slotnik (a graduate of The Culinary Institute of America, Dave’s Alma Matter), prepares healthy gluten, grain, legume, seed oil free meals which are delivered twice a week to local Crossfit gyms for pick up during the gym’s business hours. Non Crossfitters can utilize this meal service, too. This is a great idea for folks who don’t like to/want to/have time to cook every day, as well as families who want to have a few quick, easy, healthy meals in the refrigerator for busy week night dinners. I highly encourage you to check out their website to learn more about how this works. With back to school chaos right around the corner, I know that our household will benefit from having prepared, fresh, healthy meals on hand that Dave doesn’t have to cook and I don’t have to clean up!
