Finding a way back to health after Fibromyalgia and Lyme Disease

Finding a way back to health after Fibromyalgia and Lyme Disease

Today’s post is a testimonial from a client who had been dealing with chronic pain due to Lyme Disease and Fibromyalgia. She was referred to me for a consultation and has had excellent results after implementing a “Whole 30” eating plan. I’ll let you read her story in her own words: Loans No Credit Check No Fees A lot of you are probably wondering why you should do a Whole30.  I wondered the same thing when I met with Ann in May.  As a full-time working mom, I figured it was normal to be tired, foggy, and achy all the time. Everyone can drink coffee at midnight and fall asleep a half hour later right?  (Um…if you can, I’ve been told that’s not a good sign…)  The back story: A little over a year ago, one of my kids gently patted my head and pain ran through me like a lightning bolt. That episode was a wake up call because I realized I was in pain, foggy headed, and downing Advil and coffee like it was going out of style. After a couple of doctor visits, I was diagnosed with Lyme disease and fibromyalgia. They treated the Lyme disease and started me on fibro medication. The meds helped somewhat, but were not a complete fix. Something had to give. Pain sucks! Chronic pain sucks even more!  Enter Ann:   Ann was recommended to me not too long ago as someone who has had success in controlling autoimmune disease symptoms through dietary changes.  I reached out for a consult. She suggested two options when we met. Either try a Paleo diet, or really see what could be causing some of my issues and try the Whole30.   Both seemed extreme. My thoughts went something like, “Whaaat?  No muffin on the run? How will I get the kids out the door? What […]

Review of It Starts With Food by Dallas and Melissa Hartwig

Review of It Starts With Food by Dallas and Melissa Hartwig

Review of It Starts With Food You know how you look forward to Christmas morning? Even as an adult, you wake up a bit early, filled with expectation? That’s the way I felt waiting for It Starts With Food to arrive in the mail. I was fortunate enough to receive an advance copy to review, and as luck would have it, my copy arrived just before Memorial Day weekend. I spent three days sitting in the sun (soaking up Vitamin D!) while reading this book with a highlighter in one hand and a pen in the other. I recommend that you buy a few highlighters before your copy arrives! You will most definitely want to take notes in the book and mark things to refer to later. This book is filled with good information throughout. Whether you are brand new to the idea of eating real food, or a seasoned veteran, you will open this book again and again over the years to refresh your thinking on important topics such as hormonal factors which influence our brain and body (insulin, leptin, glucagon, and cortisol), the mechanism behind leaky gut syndrome (bouncers defending Club Body), inflammation and autoimmune illnesses, balancing Omega 3 and 6 consumption, and emotional factors that drive our nutrition choices. Along with the good science-y stuff, It Starts With Food teaches you how to plan meals, what a portion looks like, and how to create a meal focusing on delicious, healthy ingredients rather than complicated recipes. They discuss nutrition for special populations (pregnant women, kids, folks with autoimmune illnesses, active individuals and vegetarians/vegans) to help fine tune the plan for your individual needs. I have referred to this section several times in the past few weeks while consulting with my clients, as I tend to see folks who […]

The Whole 30, Day 2

Well, today was a bit easier than yesterday. I had a busy day; but, managed to keep my meals compliant (and tasty!) I ate breakfast in a bit of a hurry on the way out to a meeting. No time to cook anything fancy, so I reheated some cauliflower mash and butternut squash from the other night, and ate a handful of macadamia nuts with it. I also drank my coffee with a bit of coconut milk in it…. tennessee payday loans I was in a meeting most of the day, which ended with an awesome workout with Justin at Underground Athlete.http://www.undergroundathlete.com/ By the time I got home at nearly 3pm, I was pretty hungry; but, I didn’t want to eat a huge meal because dinner usually takes place about 7pm. So, I made hard boiled eggs and cut up a bunch of other good stuff. For dinner, Dave made Chicken with Prosciutto and Sage (awesome) and we had beets, the rest of the cauliflower mash, and carrots. I feel really good, and ready to go to sleep at 9pm!
